Singapore-based design student Chan Min Yun has rethought the way we take our pills to make it less dreadful and unpleasant.  In her project ‘Luxury is feeling blessed in the face of adversity’, Chan repackaged three common medicines—namely, amoxicillin (antibiotic for children), acetaminophen (menstrual relief), and paracetamol (pain relief and fever)—into dissolvable origami. 

When the origami pieces dropped into a cup of water, they bloom to reveal the medication before being completely dissolved. After slowly watching their medicine ‘unfold’, users can then consume it by drinking the water.  In this way, “the experience of watching the process serves as a form of emotional relief in addition to physical relief from the medication and slows down our pace, creating a moment to take a breather, and reflect on what we are blessed with,” Chan wrote.

A neat trick to make your child take his/her pills. Futhermore, the process of watching the origami unfold in water might already make one feel better. The project was based on the concept of luxury, and expresses Chan’s definition of a personal luxury statement as a tangible product experience.
